PainStation

PainStation was created by two German designers. It’s almost a normal Pong game. But when you lose you don’t just feel the disappointment, you also feel pain. Your left hand is positioned on the Pain Execution Unit. And missing the ball results in different types of pain. You may feel heat, punches or electroshock of varying duration depending where the ball hits. The game ends when one of the players decides that he had enough pain.

Extreme Piercing for the Love of Gods

In late September and early October in Thailand held an unusual vegetarian festival. I order to Nine Emperor Gods give them good health and peace of mind, these people during the festival, which lasts 9 days, must comply with many rules. These days they do not eat meat, drink alcohol, have sex or wear white clothes, and must maintain body hygiene and kitchen accessories… What’s really spectacular is sticking various objects through the face: knives, sabers, saw, glasses, spears… Every drop of blood, and every scar is a gift for purifying the soul. This expression of devotion and love to the gods during the ceremony is often a very creepy and bizarre, but always spectacular.

Nokia and Cambridge Design Nanotech Mobile

Nokia may not be too funky with their mobile phone designs for mass production but you have to admit, their concept designs are something that look, quite literally, out of this world. Morph, a joint Nanotechnology concept, developed by Nokia Research Center (NRC) and the University of Cambridge (UK) – was launched today alongside the “Design and the Elastic Mind” exhibition, at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Morph features in both the exhibition catalog and on MoMA’s official website.

Morph is a concept that demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes. It demonstrates the ultimate functionality that nanotechnology might be capable of delivering: flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces. Dr. Bob Iannucci, Chief Technology Officer, Nokia, commented: “Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices; the Morph concept shows what might be possible”.
Dr. Tapani Ryhanen, Head of the NRC Cambridge UK laboratory, Nokia, commented: “We hope that this combination of art and science will showcase the potential of nanoscience to a wider audience.”

5. Miroslaw Magola: Moves objects with his Mind

“Remember, there is no spoon”. Just like that kid from “The Matrix” movie, Miroslaw Magola –The “Magnetic Man”– defies laws of gravity with an extraordinary ability — applying the power of psycho kinesis he can raise anything from metal pans to marble statues, transport them through the air to affix to his body, then creates a force to keep them there — simply using mind control.
An avid enthusiast of the phenomenon of psychic energy, Miroslaw has developed his skill to manipulate lifeless objects in mid-air to obey his will, even forcing them spin around or shake. His mental powers are so keen that he can jump around while an object is stuck to his head without losing his mental grasp of the item. Miroslaw explains how he employs psycho kinetics to perform these uncanny feats, “It works because I load myself with energy (I connect myself to it) and at the same time I wish for the object to raise.” Miroslaw has undergone numerous tests for his perplexing skill which remains unexplained by conventional science to date. Although Miroslaw Magola is gifted with some of the strangest abilities in the world which are generally regarded as paranormal, his book is filled with protests against exactly this form of categorization. He deals with and discusses things ‘beyond our world,’ yet describes himself as a radical rationalist and insists on his normality.

Zen Bound 2 is one of the most unusual, but strangely satisfying, iPhone games you'll ever play. Essentially you have to wrap a rope around different 3D objects by rotating them as they float in space. Zen Bound 2 makes use of the iPhone 4's built-in gyro to add another level of control to your rotations.

2. Fring - free(iPhone 4 hardware feature: Front facing camera)

5. You Gotta See This! - £1.19
(iPhone 4 hardware feature: Gyroscope)
You Gotta See This! makes innovative use of the iPhone 4's gyroscope. Check out #seethis on Twitter for examples.

6. N.O.V.A. - Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance - £2.99
(iPhone 4 hardware feature: Gyroscope)
Before the iPhone 4, N.O.V.A. was a damn good first person shooter. After the iPhone 4 it became an even better one because it uses the iPhone 4's gyroscope as a controller aid. The game itself is a sci-fi adventure reminiscent of the Xbox's Halo, but all you really need to know is that if it moves, you generally shoot it, and that's not a bad thing.

7. Rubik's Cube - £1.79
(iPhone 4 hardware feature: Gyroscope)
This is the only 'cube' app approved by Mr Rubik himself (his first name is Erno, in case you were wondering), so that's a real seal of approval, if ever we saw one. iPhone 4 owners can get a little extra from the app thanks to the new gyroscope controls. Now you can flick your wrist to make a move, and of course there are improved graphics for the iPhone 4's retina display.

 8. Eliminate: GunRange Free - free
(iPhone 4 hardware feature: Gyroscope)
If you want a quick and dirty way to understand what the iPhone 4's gyroscope is all about then check out Eliminate: GunRange Free It's quick and dirty, but in a good way. In fact, we had this one demonstrated to us by staff in our local Apple Store, when showing off what the iPhone 4 can do. You aim your gun by moving the iPhone 4, and tap to fire. There's also a 59p paid-for version if you need more to shoot at than the free version offers.

9. iMovie - £2.99
(iPhone 4 hardware feature: HD video recording)
Now you've got a HD capable video recorder in your pocket you might as well make use of it. Apple's iMovie app enables you to turn your videos into mini masterpieces right on the iPhone 4 then upload them to YouTube. It's understandably limited compared to the full OS X version of iMovie, but it's still an essential app for the iPhone 4.

10. Torch for iPhone 4 - 59p
(New iPhone 4 hardware feature: LED flash)
Here's an app that does what it says on the tin: Torch for iPhone 4 It turns your iPhone 4 into a torch by utilising the LED flash. It's a simple idea, and works surprisingly well. You can even use it to send morse code messages, should you ever feel the need.
